  • 1904: Born Archibald Alexander Leach, at 15 Hughenden Road, Bristol, England, 18th January.
  • 1914: Told his mother has died, she is actually wrongly committed to a mental institution.
  • 1917: Aged 13, Archie shown the backstage of Bristol's Hippodrome Theatre.
  • 1918: Expelled from Fairfield School, forges father's signature on a document that allows him to join Bob Pender's Troupe, March.
  • 1920: Sails to US with Bob Pender Troupe, joins vaudeville circuit.
  • 1927: Success onstage in Golden Dawn.
  • 1929: First screen test with Jeanette MacDonald.
  • 1931: Signs contract with Paramount amd changes name to Cary Grant, November.
  • 1933: Learns that his mother is alive.
  • 1934: Marries Virginia Cherrill, 9th February.
  • 1935: Father dies, 2nd December.
  • 1936: 5 year contract with Paramount ends.
  • 1942: Officially becomes an US citizen and legally changes name to Cary Grant, 26th June.
  • 1942: First Oscar nomination for Penny Serenade.
  • 1942: Marries Barbara Hutton, 8th July.
  • 1945: Second Oscar nomination for None But the Lonely Heart
  • 1949: Marries Betsy Drake, 25th December.
  • 1955: After a temporary break, returns in To Catch A Thief.
